Secretariat of the Supervisory Committee

The Secretariat of the Supervisory Committee (‘Secretariat’) is provided by the European Commission in close cooperation with the Supervisory Committee. The Secretariat acts on the instructions of the Supervisory Committee and independently from the Commission. Without prejudice to its control over the budget of the Supervisory Committee and its Secretariat, the Commission does not interfere with the monitoring functions of the Supervisory Committee.

The Secretariat consists of a dedicated team of lawyers, former investigators, and assistants. Under the management of the Head of Secretariat, it ensures the monitoring of OLAF investigative activities and assists the Supervisory Committee's Members in the execution of their tasks. Officials assigned to the Secretariat of the Supervisory Committee shall neither seek, nor take instructions from any government or any institution, body, office or agency of the EU, relating to the exercise of the monitoring functions of the Supervisory Committee.

Pursuant to the amended OLAF Regulation, the Secretariat also provides the Controller of procedural guarantees with all necessary administrative and legal support in the handling of complaints regarding OLAF’s compliance with procedural guarantees and the rules applicable to OLAF investigations, in particular, infringements of procedural requirements and fundamental rights.

The Head of the Secretariat is Mr. Lambros PAPADIAS.
